Nissan's newly appointed CEO Makoto Uchida vowed "to move Nissan forward" as the Japanese car manufacturer "is facing difficulties," speaking at a press conference at the Nissan Motor's headquarters in Yokohama on Monday.
Uchida noted that he was "determined" to turn around the faltering Japanese car maker "by assuming the CEO position."
In what seems to be a break from the former leadership of Carlos Ghosn, Uchida stressed the importance of setting "challenging but achievable" targets and a higher degree of "transparency" between the company's top management and its employees. He then condemned "a distortion in the corporate culture," which he suggested had been created by the former leadership.
The Nissan CEO also reaffirmed the car maker's alliance with France's Renault SA, noting that the alliance "has to benefit each of its partners in terms of revenue and profit."
Uchida became Nissan's new CEO on December 1. He took over the company amid its crisis, following the arrest and ousting of its former CEO Ghosn for alleged financial misconduct, which he has denied.
