A powerful 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck central Japan on Monday, killing at least one person, destroying buildings and roads, and knocking out power to tens of thousands of homes.
The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning along the coastal regions of Ishikawa, Niigata and Toyama prefectures, ordering nearly 100, 000 residents to evacuate.
It was the strongest quake in the region in more than four decades, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
