Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that the US’s attempt to ‘bury the INF Treaty’ will “create new risks” for Europe, speaking at the opening session of the 25th OSCE ministerial meeting in Milan on Thursday.
Lavrov went on to say that the “reckless expansion of NATO, the build-up of the alliance’s potential on the so-called Eastern flank, the deployment of US missile defence systems in Europe, illegitimate sanctions under imaginary pretexts” have led to a “crisis of confidence” in the Euro-Atlantic area.
The Russian top diplomat also mentioned that the OSCE anti-crisis efforts in Donbass “are much needed,” adding “all the efforts on the Ukrainian crisis settlement face new obstacles, including government interference in the church, it exacerbates the already dire situation in domestic policy and divides society.”
Foreign ministers from the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) member states began talks at the 25th OSCE Ministerial Council meeting in Milan on Thursday.
A resolution to the Kerch Straight incident is expected to be discussed, with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, his Ukrainian counterpart Pavlo Klimkin and EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini all in attendance.
The annually-held meeting sees foreign ministers from the 57 member states discussing security issues and reviewing the organisation's activities.
