The Israeli military launched a raid at Gaza's al-Shifa Hospital on Monday, saying they discovered funds and weapons in hospital rooms.

An Israeli government spokesperson confirmed that the military had killed a Hamas operative, while an accompanying statement from the Israeli army said 20 gunmen had been killed during the raid.

Meanwhile, Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry had said the Israeli raid led to multiple casualties and set off a fierce fire in one of the buildings.

Palestinian outgoing prime minister Mohammad Shtayyeh addressed the Israeli raid during a cabinet meeting on Monday. In a 'plea to humanity' and world leaders, Shtayyeh asked: "How long will you remain motionless, on the side of Israel - the criminal state?"
