Israel PM: Ending war "would leave Hamas in power," serve as victory for “entire axis of evil”

In a video address on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu doubled down on his rejection of demands from Hamas militants for Israel to end its war in Gaza and with an exchange of hostages.

Netanyahu claimed that “capitulating to Hamas’s demands” — which are to remove all Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip and end the war — would “leave Hamas in power.” An idea, he said, “the State of Israel cannot accept.”

Hamas leaders held truce talks with Egyptian and Qatari mediators in Cairo earlier this week, with no apparent progress, as the militant group maintained its demand that any agreement must end the war in Gaza, according to Palestinian officials.

Despite his statement, Netanyahu said Israel is “working in every possible way to free [its] hostages” and rather than ending the war, is “ready for a pause in the fighting,” to do so.

“Israel will not agree to Hamas' demands, which would mean surrender,” Netanyahu added. “It will continue fighting until all of its objectives are achieved."
