The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCR) said Tuesday that Israel’s siege of Gaza and evacuation order for the northern area of the enclave could be a breach of international law.

Speaking to reporters in Geneva, UN Human Rights Office spokesperson Ravina spokesperson said Israel seemingly made “no effort” to ensure that civilians temporarily evacuated in Gaza were provided proper accommodation and satisfactory conditions for hygiene, health and safety.

Meanwhile, some Gazans who were evacuated from the north said they were considering returning because they did not feel it was safe in the south despite Israel’s evacuation order.

"We were told to leave Gaza (city), so we did and went to Khan Younis, but we did not find any place to sleep in,” Saleem Abu Marasa said. “The night we spent here, the house next to us was targeted with people inside it, and 70 people died. Where should we go? We are now going back to Gaza (city). It is better for us to die at home.”
