Mosul residents, young and old, are struggling to provide for their families and themselves, as many complain that restoration efforts are being hampered by corruption and lack of action from officials.
“We have regressed like 100 years, it’s misery here, believe me there is no honourable person, all of them steal and are corrupt," complained one local man.
Fellow resident Abu Ahmed echoed this criticism, saying that “the aid is stolen by local government officials. They are corrupt people,” and said that “the new prime minister has not visited the city.”
Another local man highlighted the city’s continuing lack of infrastructure stating that there had been “no construction, no building, just promises without any meaning.”
The Old City still bears the heavy scars of war while residents say dead bodies can still be found beneath the rubble.
