In the past few months, the ISIL (ISIS) armed group has staged repeated attacks on security forces in Iraq.
Al Jazeera gained access to Tarmiyah, a town north of Baghdad, an area that is known for regular ISIL activity and a staging ground for raids on the capital.
Security forces are fighting back in the region, but some locals say they are not doing enough and should empower local militias to do more - while others fear that the mostly Shia militias could use the fight against ISIL as an excuse to take control of the area.
Al Jazeera’s Simona Foltyn reports from Tarmiya, Iraq.
