It was meant to be a weekend of family time.

Andi Hariyanto had promised his wife and three children that he would take them to watch their favourite soccer club Arema FC play a home game against local rival Persebaya Surabaya.

But what started out as a night of pride and joy soon turned into a nightmare. It was the last time the 36-year-old would see most of them alive.

In one of the world's deadliest stadium disasters, hundreds of spectators were crushed as they tried to flee the overcrowded stadium in Malang, East Java on Saturday after police fired tear gas to disperse agitated fans who had poured onto the pitch when Arena lost the match 3-2 to Persebaya.

Panicked spectators were trampled on as they tried to flee the overcrowded Kanjuruhan stadium. At least 131 people were killed on Saturday, with 33 children among them, officials said.
