India's coronavirus crisis continues to spiral out of control.
Scientific advisers appointed by the government said they warned officials in early March of a new and more contagious variant of the coronavirus.
Despite the warning, four of the scientists said the federal government did not seek to impose significant restrictions to stop the spread of the COVID-19.
The government is desperate to expand its vaccination programme, but has struggled to meet demand.
People have turned up to get the jab, only to find there are no doses left.

Al Jazeera's Elizabeth Puranam reports from New Delhi, India.
