Warner Bros. Discovery, which runs both Three and Newshub, blames a lack of advertising revenue for its decision to axe the major New Zealand news outlet, affecting around 300 staff and roughly 75% of Three's workforce.

Former Broadcasting Minister Willie Jackson, The Spinoff Editor Duncan Grieve, and former TV3 journalist and presenter Janet Wilson joined Breakfast to analyse and discuss how Newshub's closure will alter the New Zealand media landscape.

Media and Communications Minister Melissa Lee was invited to join the show, but said she was unavailable.
