Russia unleashed a major missile attack on Ukraine on Saturday, smashing a nine-storey apartment block in the city of Dnipro and killing at least five people, officials said. At least 27 people — including six children — were also wounded in the attack, with more people still trapped under the rubble, according to the regional governor.
At least 15 people were rescued after being buried under a section of the apartment block that was reduced to rubble, authorities added. Drone footage showed white smoke billowing between the rubble of two partially destroyed apartment buildings, and a broad chunk of one apartment block missing. Local resident Stanislav said that he was “speechless” in the face of the attack.
Outside of Kyiv, a Russian rocket hit a residential area in the village of Kopyliv on Saturday, according to Kyiv's regional governor, Oleksiy Kuleba. The rocket attack left a large blast crater and damaged windows and roofs in several privately owned houses in the village, which is about 30 km away from the capital.
Russia, which invaded Ukraine last February, has been pounding the country’s energy infrastructure with missiles and drones since October, causing sweeping blackouts and disruptions to central heating and running water as winter bites.
