As a result of increasing global temperatures brought forward by climate change, forecasters are raising their hurricane season predictions above average in 2023.
In fact, this summer is being dubbed an “overactive” hurricane season, with 18 named storms, nine hurricanes and three to five major storms of category 3 (or higher) already being predicted.
The highest ocean temperatures ever recorded are partly to do with the fuelling of this year’s hurricanes. Jackson Proskow has the latest.
