Canada does not have enough workers to meet its affordable housing supply targets, according to a new report from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp.

The agency expects housing starts to fall well below the targets it has set for 2030 in Ontario, B.C. and Quebec.

In those three provinces and in Alberta, there will only be enough labour capacity over the next eight years to increase the number of housing starts between 30 and 50 per cent under best-case scenarios, according to the report released on Thursday.

Anne Gaviola has more on the labour shortage and how it’s impacting Canada’s ability to tackle the affordability crisis.
