With loud bells, the animals cover the long distance to the village. Thousands of spectators watch the spectacle. The entourage is led by Leonhard "Hartl" Thaler: As a farmer, cattle dealer, innkeeper and musician, the 62-year-old is a well-known figure in his Tyrolean home town of Reith im Alpbachtal. And as a traditional herdsman, he puts his heart and soul into cultivating the tradition of the cattle drive that has been practiced for 500 years.
