Election integrity and security has been under intense scrutiny since politicians like former President Donald Trump and his allies have claimed, without proof, that the 2020 election was not properly carried out, pushing baseless claims of election fraud.

The PBS NewsHour’s digital anchor Nicole Ellis spoke with elections expert Tammy Patrick, a former elections official who now works for Democracy Fund, about what specific steps states take to ensure integrity in elections.

“People do some things differently from one state to the next. But at the end of the day, everyone is providing voters with ballots. They're securing the process. They're making sure that there's access to eligible voters. They're counting the ballots with integrity and [voters] should have confidence in the process," Patrick said.
