The RCMP held a press conference on Friday following arrests made in connection to the killing of British Columbia Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

The Canadian Sikh separatist leader was fatally shot in B.C., with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau citing “credible” intelligence that agents of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government may be linked to the killing.

Global News has learned that the suspected hitmen accused of killing Nijjar were arrested in Alberta and Ontario, according to a source familiar with the matter.

The RCMP took the Indian nationals into custody on Friday morning, almost a year after Nijjar was gunned down.

The suspects entered Canada on student visas but may have been working at the direction of Indian intelligence when they shot Nijjar, the source said.
