Haiti’s Prime Minister Ariel Henry has tendered his resignation, appealing for calm in the country amidst spiralling violence.
That's according to the President of Guyana Irfaan Ali, who is the chairman of the Caribbean regional group.

Henry has been in Puerto Rico since last week, after gang leaders dominating the capital warned him against returning to Port-Au-Prince.
Leaders of the Caribbean bloc CARICOM have been meeting in Jamaica's capital to discuss a political transition and the security crisis in the country.

Al Jazeera’s Teresa Bo has more from Santo Domingo in the neighbouring Dominican Republic.

Harold Isaac is a Journalist in the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince.
He says it's not yet clear who will be on the transitional council that will lead Haiti once Ariel Henry's resignation is complete.
