“I am alive, thanks to God,” Martine Moise, the wife of assassinated Haitian President Jovenel Moise, said in Creole in an audio message.
“I am crying, it is true, but we cannot let the country lose its way,” she said. “We cannot let his blood … have been spilled in vain.”
Haiti’s minister of culture and communications, Pradel Henriquez, confirmed to the AFP news agency that the audio was authentic.
Haiti’s interim government has asked the United States to send troops, but the Biden administration has said it has no immediate plans to send in the military. It would however deploy FBI and Homeland Security agents to help with the investigation.
