For the first time in almost 20 years, Germany’s Social Democrats are the frontrunners to win the upcoming general election.
Under the current Finance Minister Olaf Scholz, the SPD has seen its poll ratings transformed.
He says Germany needs to go in a different direction from the one it has followed under Angela Merkel.
But as Al Jazeera's Dominic Kane reports from Berlin, part of Scholz's success appears to be his imitation of the current chancellor.
