Germany boss Joachim Low said Manchester City winger Leroy Sane was fortunate to escape a broken leg after Serbia's Milan Pavkov was sent off for a 93rd minute lunge on the German after the two sides met at an international friendly in Wolfsburg on Wednesday.
Low's revamped squad were held to a 1-1 draw by the Serbs after solid display from their number 1 Marko Dmitrovic, but much of the post-match focus was on Sane's wellbeing after he was forced off the pitch late on.
“Leroy Sane was on the receiving end of a really, really vicious foul. The Serbian coach has apologised to me. Thank God that nothing happened to Leroy. The way the tackle was, completely on his foot, it could have been a leg break," Low said.
Serbian coach Mladen Krstajic said that the card red card was 'fair' and confirmed that he apologised to Low after the game.
