A former GDR state yacht known as the Vineta, lay parked at Stralsund port on Friday, the vessel is due to be auctioned on Sunday December 7 because the previous owner has become insolvent.
Originally known as the A. Kobis, the boat was built in 1964 to be used for conferences and events by officials from the GDR. SED General Secretary Erich Honecker invited several international figures to join him on the boat including Fidel Castro and Daniel Ortega.
The auction will begin at €34,000 ($41,000) but organisers expect the boat to fetch at least €200,000 ($245,000).
