It is a verdict that is being called a "landmark leap" towards justice.
A German court has convicted former Syrian official Anwar Raslan of crimes against humanity and sentenced him to life in prison.
Raslan entered Germany around 2014, where he was granted asylum, but in 2018, German police began to investigate his story and decided to prosecute.
