Legislators in Georgia say they will drop a controversial bill that many feared would silence independent media and critics.
Thousands of people have been protesting against the proposed law in the capital Tbilisi for two days.
There were violent confrontations between protesters and police on Wednesday night and critics were not taking the government's U-turn for granted.
