George Floyd death: Floyd died of ‘asphyxiation,’ autopsy commissioned by family finds

An independent autopsy commissioned by the family of George Floyd, a Black man who died in Minneapolis, Minn. after a white police officer pressed his knee on his neck for several minutes until he became unresponsive, found that the cause of death was "mechanical asphyxia."

Dr. Michael Baden, one of the doctors who performed the autopsy at the request of Floyd's family, said during a news conference in Minneapolis that Floyd had no underlying medical conditions that contributed to his death.
