The Palestine Red Crescent Society said their emergency crews at Al-Quds Hospital are facing blackouts and intense shelling in the vicinity. The UN's World Health Organization expressed alarm at the situation in Al-Shifa hospital, which medical staff say has run out of water, food, and electricity. Israel said it had clashed with Hamas nearby but not fired on the hospital.
Meanwhile, Israeli media are reporting progress in negotiations to free hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would not comment, saying "silence would be best" until something concrete is known. Israel believes around 240 people are being held in Gaza. It's now been five weeks since their abduction, and little is known about their fates.
