Chile's peso has bounced back after the election of a left-wing student leader sparked a steep fall in the currency.
Gabriel Boric, the country's youngest leader at 35 years of age, defeated his conservative rival in Sunday's run-off election.
In his first day as president-elect, Boric tried to ease fears his leadership will cause economic instability.
But he has promised to try to rebalance the social inequalities which have driven bitter protests in the past.
Al Jazeera’s Lucia Newman reports from Santiago, Chile.
