The flu season used to mean household variety snuffles and sore throats. But nowadays, catch the wrong strain and you could end up in hospital or worse. In 2009, it was swine flu, we picked that one up from pigs. And, as Liam Bartlett discovered, that's just the start of it. Bats, birds, horses, monkeys, they all carry bugs that could kill millions.
