The first ever FIFA Women's Football Convention kicked off in Paris on Thursday with a who's who of football's elite coming together to discuss key issues facing the development and empowerment of women in the sport.
In her opening statement, the first ever female Secretary General in 112 years of FIFA history, Fatma Samoura, set the agenda for this convention saying that "I'm drawing from the energy of the me-too movement, I want this convention, I want women's football, I want the women's World Cup to be a safe space for girls and women, where your voice can be heard and where you can feel empowered."
The discussion panel also saw the likes of FIFA legends such as Veronica Boquete Giadans and Michael Essien who turned up to motivate and show their support to women's football.
The two-day Women's Football Convention will conclude on Friday and coincides with the start of the FIFA 2019 Women's World Cup set to be played in France.
