People in southern parts of Brazil have been left cleaning out mud and water from their homes after three days of rainfall has caused flooding in multiple towns and municipalities, and killed at least two people.

Alan Cesar Borati, one flood victim, said locals tried to prevent damage by moving their belongings to higher areas of the city and by lifting things up at home, but the water rose above the 65 centimetres in height expected.

The flooding hit many parts of Brazil's southern state of Santa Catarina, leaving about 30 towns in a state of emergency.
