According to exclusive Ipsos polling done for Global News, seven in ten people say the country qualifying for the World Cup makes them proud to be Canadian.
But in terms of viewership, only one-third will pay close attention to the event and six in ten say they couldn’t care less.
World Cup interest is driven by age with people aged 18 to 34 most likely to watch closely.
“We have to keep in mind that even if we say that interest is relatively low, if we say a third of Canadians are paying attention, that’s still over 10 million people who have the potential of watching this,” said Sébastien Dallaire, senior vice president at Ipsos Canada.
