Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Wednesday that the federal government will be committing up to $800 million for Indigenous-led construction projects across the country, covering almost a million square kilometres. Trudeau added that the projects will be "designed by communities for communities."
"By working in partnership with Indigenous communities and by listening when Indigenous people tell us 'walking forward on reconciliation and making progress on conservation' — [it] must go together," Trudeau said.
Trudeau made the announcement alongside Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault, the grand chief of Tlicho Nation Jackson Lafferty and president of Nanwakolas Council Dallas Smith.
