Canadian federal ministers on Thursday responded to the 2021 report by Canada's auditor general, Karen Hogan, on Thursday afternoon.
Earlier on Thursday, Hogan delivered five performance audit reports to the House of Commons, as well as a copy of the already public report of the special examination of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation, for tabling in the House.
The report found that some of the government's complex IT systems needed to be replaced. Also, Canada's ship building strategy has been slow to deliver combat as well as non-combat ships. The AG report praised the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) for its accurate and timely payments of the Canada Child Benefit. AG Hogan said she was "very concerned and disheartened" that the Liberal government was unable to meet its commitment for removing all boil water advisories in Indigenous communities. Lastly, the AG also found that a 2013 report on rail safety had not been fully addressed.
Minister of Indigenous Services Marc Miller, Minister of Public Services and Procurement Anita Anand, Transport Minister Omar Alghabra, Minister of Digital Government Joyce Murray and Diane Lebouthillier, Minister of National Revenue addressed the five performance audit reports while fielding questions from reporters Thursday in Ottawa.
