Fans climb over soccer stadium wall in Iraq as stampede kills at least 2

At least two people were killed and dozens were injured in a stampede near the Basra International Stadium, as thousands of soccer fans tried to enter on Thursday, Iraq's state news agency reported.

The incident occurred ahead of the final of the Arabian Gulf Cup, the first major football tournament hosted in Iraq in 40 years.

The Interior Ministry had issued a statement urging fans not to attend the final unless they had tickets, according to Iraqi News Agency.

The final between tournament host Iraq and Oman has attracted thousands of fans to the southern city of Basra, with many Iraqis exhilarated to see their team reach the final.
