Former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan said Friday that two gunmen had tried to kill him in Wazirabad while he was on a protest march to the capital of Islamabad. He delivered the comments from hospital where he was being treated for leg wounds after being shot in the shin.

He went on to accuse Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and intelligence official Maj.-Gen. Faisal Naseer as being involved in the attack, but he provided no evidence for his claim.

The attack on Khan left one person dead and 11 people injured. It prompted his supporters to stage demonstrations across the country, with police having to use tear gas to disperse those who had blocked roads in Islamabad.
