The International Criminal Court has sentenced a former rebel leader from the Democratic Republic of the Congo to 30 years in prison.

Bosco Ntaganda - also known as the Terminator - will serve time for war crimes that were committed in the Democratic Republic of Congo's northeastern Ituri region from 2002-2003.

Judges described Ntaganda's involvement in the crimes carried out by rebel soldiers as "substantial".

Al Jazeera's Catherine Soi reports from Kiwanja in eastern DRC.
