Dozens of people are feared dead after a boat carrying migrants capsized off the coast of Lampedusa, Italy, the Italian Red Cross and rescue groups reported.

Four survivors who were rescued and brought to land Wednesday reportedly said they had left Sfax, Tunisia on Aug. 3. About six hours into the voyage, a huge wave overturned the vessel.

It is the latest fatal crossing between North Africa and Europe, with more than 1,800 people losing their lives this year.

Miranda Anthistle speaks to Felix Weiss with the migrant safety group Sea-Watch about the crisis and the group’s work to rescue migrants.
