French President Emmanuel Macron called for a stronger, more integrated European defence and warned that "Europe could die" if it does not become more assertive on the global stage.

Macron expressed concern about the growing military capabilities of regional powers such as Russia and Iran and the Sino-American tensions, which are leading to increased spending on arms and technological innovation.

"We must continue to have partnerships with other countries. Yes, meaning building a Europe that can show that it is never the vassal of the United States of America and that it also knows how to speak to all regions in the world," he added.

Macron also stressed the importance of a strong defence industry and urged Europe to produce more in Europe and reduce its dependence on non-European industries.
