The UN has welcomed a statement by forces in northern Ethiopia's Tigray saying they are open to a ceasefire.
The Tigrayans are also ready to accept an African Union-led peace process, something they have dismissed in the past.
However, with a short-lived ceasefire breaking down last month, meaningful talks might prove difficult.
