A record-breaking surge of migrants crossing the U.S. border from Mexico is depleting resources for asylum seekers in El Paso, Tex.

With more than 2,000 migrants entering El Paso a day, shelter capacities are being exceeded, according to mayor Oscar Leeser.

El Paso plans to open a new shelter. On Saturday five buses were chartered to take migrants to New York, Chicago and Denver.

The surge has asylum seekers camping at borders or entering the country illegally.
