The Dutch prime minister has described the shooting of a prominent crime journalist as "shocking and incomprehensible".
Peter R de Vries was seriously wounded on a street in Amsterdam.
He is known for his investigative work in exposing the Dutch underworld.
De Vries has had police protection in the past, after receiving threats for his involvement in criminal cases.
