Disease prompts cancellation of poultry shows at Stanislaus County Fair

The Stanislaus County Fair has canceled all poultry shows for this year's livestock program because of concerns about a virus that affects birds and causes high mortality rates, officials said. The decision comes after the California Department of Food and Agriculture and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration recommended all fairs evaluate their poultry shows because of a virus called Virulent Newcastle Disease, according to a news release from the fair.
