Aso, a Japanese comedian with a spinal muscular atrophy that has rendered him completely paralyzed, has started waiting on tables at a cafe by mind-controlling a robot avatar located almost a 100 kilometers away.
The pioneering initiative, which allows people with disabilities to make a self-fulfilling living, has been introduced at 'Avatar Robot Cafe DAWN Ver.beta' in Tokyo.
‘People with severe disabilities like mine from all over the country are working as pilots at the same cafe, so having more friends in a similar situation has really changed my life,’ said Aso, as he remotely controlled his avatar robot OriHome-D from home.
