Democrats have taken control of the United States Senate as two of its candidates secured runoff wins in the state of Georgia, making it easier for President-elect Joe Biden's administration to implement its policies.
Democratic candidates Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff narrowly won their Senate seats.
Warnock is only the 11th Black senator in US history while Ossoff is the Senate's youngest member.
Republicans Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue said they would exhaust every resource to ensure all “legal votes were counted”.
Al Jazeera’s Natasha Ghoneim reports from Atlanta, Georgia, the US.
