Recovery efforts are underway in Nova Scotia, where a humpback whale has died after becoming stranded on a sandbar in Shubenacadie River.

A Minke whale was also spotted in that river less than a month earlier, but it managed to survive after finding its way out at high tide.

Heidi Petracek explains what could have brought the whale upstream and what could happen if crews can't get the remains out.
