Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has been physically assaulted as she was campaigning for the European elections in Copenhagen.

Police have arrested the suspected attacker, a 39-year-old Polish man, and said they don't believe the incident was politically motivated.

Frederiksen's office said she had been left with 'minor whiplash' by the attack.

The incident on Friday evening came just before Danes head to the polls to vote in the European Parliament elections.

The attack is just the latest in a series against politicians in Europe in recent weeks.
