Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), provided an update on the guidance for fully-vaccinated people on Thursday, saying that Americans who have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine can take part in indoor and outdoor activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing.
Walensky said the agency made the decision based on the “downward trajectory of cases, the scientific data on the performance of our vaccines and our understanding of how the virus spreads.”
She also cautioned that in the case of an uptick in cases, the agency could change its guidelines. Walensky said those who develop symptoms, whether vaccinated or not, should begin wearing a mask again and get tested.
