The United Kingdom is reintroducing some restrictions and ramping up third COVID-19 vaccine doses as the country reports its first death from the Omicron variant.

In London, the variant is already responsible for 44 per cent of COVID-19 cases. It's spreading so fast, it's expected to become dominant there within 48 hours.
