There is a lot of research that natural gas stoves can release airborne pollutants, but it doesn’t appear that they will be banned from homes in the U.S. or Canada.
“When you combust natural gas you produce a lot of things. You produce ultra-fine or very small particles that can penetrate very deep into our respiratory system,” says Jeffrey Siegel, professor of civil and mineral engineering at the University of Toronto.
Studies have shown that stoves that burn natural gas can emit pollutants inside a home like nitrogen dioxide and fine particulate matter.
