Schools in Canada have mostly stayed open amid the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada, and transmission of the virus within schools has been limited. But as the virus spreads through communities, that could change.

British Columbia schools make up less than 10 per cent of the approximately 13,000 cases that have arisen since the start of the term, and in Ontario, more than 3,300 staff and students have been diagnosed with COVID-19. There have been approximately 10,000 in Quebec.

As Robin Gill reports, some provinces are now weighing whether to start Christmas break earlier to reduce the risk of virus spread.
